One of the key roles of a Product Manager is to reduce assumptions, test them out and establish conclusive evidence for what is not already known and make decisions about the future based on the established evidence rather than on assumptions.
While this is ingrained in me for the work that I do, I don't follow anywhere near the same rigour outside of work, especially when it comes to dealing with assumptions I make about what people around me think about things that matter to me.
I'm now looking to apply the same approach and test the assumptions I have and test them quickly, and remove any anxiety that comes with the assumptions early, rather than allow it to build up to monumental proportions.
It's always a great idea to step back, acknowledge what the assumptions are, test them, and establish evidence that we can then use to make our decisions.
