A couple of weeks ago now, I deleted the Instagram app from my phone.
I had found that I was defaulting to it whenever I was sitting down and working on a hard problem and was stuck. And I thought taking away this immediate gratification will bring focus back to the problem at hand.
And this has been working well so far.
However, I thought I might miss having access to the app at other times. But, as it turns out, I haven't felt the need to fire up the app at all.
It reminded me of a question Seth Godin often returns to.
"Will they miss you if you're gone?"
He says it in the context of doing our best work in such a way that we would be missed if we were not doing it. Unlike a replaceable cog in the machine.
A timely reminder to do our best work.
