As the information that we have access to increases, we take comfort in the familiar and seek out ideas and opinions that resonate with us. And when we read about opinions that are contrarian to how we feel, then we read them and feel justified in the way we feel and why what we just came across was wrong.
When consuming ideas, new and old, it is good to take a step back and ask:
Is there something that I disagree with here?
What did I learn here that I didn't already know before?
Has anything about how I feel or what I believe in changed after I've been introduced to this idea?
In other words, we just need to train ourselves to be more objective.
Because it doesn't come naturally to us.
